Happy New Years, Vultures!

So, at Midnight, when most people were getting nicely smashed in celebration of new years, what was I doing?

My birdy, Aya, is helping show off the nice "new" papasan chair I pulled out of the dumpster. It needed very minor repairs- some of the bars came un-stapled so I took some 1 1/4" wire brads and re-nailed them down. The only major problem it has is the bottom bar on the base was cracked in two, but since its the base, it doesnt get as much stress as the top portion. I re-nailed it, strapped it with thin rope, and used really strong two part putty to bind it all together. It's nice and tight now, but could use more putty in areas for strentgh (I ran out...) All it needs now is a cushion. Too bad they're expensive, so I won't be getting it for a few weeks.

I'm thrilled. My old chair finally died a few months ago and I got a replacement chair that is this foldout thing and rather uncomfortable. I'm thrilled to have found a new papasan. They're wonderfully comfortable. I seem to have a nack for finding these things. This is the second one I've found. Hehe, the first one I found is in the background of the picture. Still holding up fine even after two and a half years, no cracks or loose nails. ^^

GYAH! I'm so slow at going through my e-mail and responding to comments. --*

You don't need a partner to start dumpster diving. The vast majority of the time I don't actually get IN the dumpster to dig around. Most of the stuff I find is set on the side of a dumpster (people either want people to take it so they set it aside, or it's too heavy/awkward to put it in so its set on the side) or it's setting on the top of said dumpster (like this chair was.) With the chair, someone threw it out and only the bottom was buried at the back of the can and I needed a chair to help me reach it.

Starting dumpster diving is easy- just keep your eyes open as you're passing dumpsters. ^^

Its sad how much people throw out with out thinking. Me and my friend has found things from minor repairs to almost brand spanking new! This we had found as such has been well... an 3000$ electric board with one simple four dollar mice chewed cord to replace. Brand new HUGE Plasma screen TV missing only its base stand (this this still had sales stickers on it) think it was dropped. Did you know if its not perfect lots of electronic stores can sell it or take it themselves and are advised to just throw it out!

Pet cages GALORE, many shelves one nice antique one made of hard cherry wood minority chipped in a corner. All up to things like brand new still in its box toys and electric shavers. Don't underestimate a good garbage diver! In scrap metal alone we get about 500$+ a month of casual searching. And if your into fur-hide-and-bone stuff I have found THOUSANDS of poor deceased pets. Its were I got my chiwawa skull.
